FIVE Star review for DRAGGING HOOKS

Sit in the Front Row of the Jury Seat and Prepare to be Horrified and Outraged!
Dragging Hooks might give us a hint of what to expect from Speicher in upcoming works. He seems to be heading in the direction of hard-boiled crime fiction. But what I enjoy about his approach is the fact that he hasn't lost touch with that altered-state-of-consciousness angle that was most evident in earlier works such as Closing my Eyes Helps me to See Clearly. You'll see what I mean when finally reading the story.
The only thing I want to say about the plot of Dragging Hooks is that the story opens with the investigation of the disappearance of a young woman. It's suspected that perhaps her body is at the bottom of a swamp, and equipment is being prepared to drag the bottom for her search. This is what gives the title of the story. Hooks will be thrown and stretched across the water to sink down and then pull whatever is at the bottom.
From there, Kipp places the reader in the front row of the jury seat as we get to witness testimony from the person guilty of this crime and the poor young woman who had to suffer from the murder. As I've come to realize, Kipp is highly skilled with placing himself in the shoes of his fictional characters and can blow life into them so that they speak to us.
While sitting in that jury seat I found myself outraged with the course of events. The person guilty of the crime was very much troubled. And I really felt for the young woman who suffered. She only loved her murderer and wanted to help him.
I thoroughly enjoyed the repeated thought-provoking contrasts that were splashed throughout the story. Just to warn the reader; there is mention of Baptism. At first I was a bit uneasy with a sacred rite being used in a work of fiction. But Kipp uses the imagery of this sacrament respectfully and it fits with the contrast to ultimately voice a compelling argument.
I give Dragging Hooks five stars! It's brilliantly crafted as not only a work of hard-boiled fiction, but continues to provide more thought-provoking moments of altered states of consciousness.

Happy 420 Marijuana Girl

I have been enjoying all the Pulp novels you can find on the Amazon Kindle and have been digging deep into the Pulp Art scene some amazing stuff to read and discover in the history of it all.

One of the paperback back books I am reading now is Dope Menace: The Sensational World of Drug Paperbacks that has amazing art and in depth background on the drug culture and literature. One of the books mentioned in the book is Marijuana Girl That sounded like a fun great read so I went to Amazon finding the Hardback at around $28 and no Kindle listing :(

Then I searched by author and it turns out a 3 book collection is available on the Kindle for $7.99 what a deal The Novels of N.R. de Mexico

Liz Grace Interview

Interview with Liz Grace Davis

1: What is the most productive time of the day for you to write?

I’m a night person. Many times the creative part of my brain just doesn’t seem to function during the day. I have tried waking up early before work, in order to get some writing done. For a while it worked, but then I decided that the last few hours of sleep in the mornings were just too delicious to give up. I get a lot done at night but unfortunately, as a result, I end up going to bed very late.

2: Do you start your projects writing with paper and pen or is it all on the computer?

It varies. Sometimes I start writing on paper but when I reach the stage where pens are running out of ink or I can’t find my writing pad. It all gets on my nerves and I pull out my laptop. In order to be able to write on paper, I need lots of writing pads lying around and a pen that doesn’t leak or doesn’t slow me down. There are some pens that are just too hard to write fast with. But I have to say, when I’m stuck at a certain point in my writing, I make notes on paper and usually it helps me get unstuck.

3: What do you draw inspiration from?

Anything and everything. The world we live in is such a great source of inspiration; magazines, a thunderstorm, music, my life…anything. For me, inspiration can strike anytime. I don’t go looking for it. I just start writing and when inspiration finds me, it’s such a gift.

4: Do you set goals for yourself when you sit down to write such as word count?

No, never, because I never meet my goals. I tend to get more done when I don’t have any goals hovering over my head, intimidating me. Maybe if I had deadlines, I would. As long as that isn’t the case, my only goal when I sit down to write is to just write as much as I can.

5: Are you a published or a self published author and how do you come up with your cover art?

I’m self published and my cover art is done by my wonderful cover artist, Tamra Westberry. She designed the covers of both my novels; Tangi’s Teardrops which is already published and my upcoming novel, Chocolate Aftertaste.

6: What drives you to choose the career of being a writer?

The career chose me. Writing is just a part of who I am and has been for years. If I fall off the writing bandwagon for a while, I reach a point where I’m just not myself and feel almost a little depressed. When I start writing again, it’s always like having a refreshing glass of cold water on a hot summer day.

7: Do you own an ebook reading device?

If the kindle app on my iphone counts, then yes. For now, that’s all I use to read ebooks. But a kindle is at the top of my wish list.

8: Who are some of your favorite authors and What are you reading now?

There are a lot of authors I like but in the list you’ll find Lesley Pearse, Jodi Picoult, Louise Bagshawe, and Jane Green. I’m currently reading Flawless (A pretty little liars novel) by Sara Shepard and Jodi Picoult’s Sing you home.

9: What do you think of book trailers and do you have any plans to have any?

I love book trailers. I can’t say for sure whether they influence buying behavior, but I do love watching them and creating them. That’s why I’ve created book trailers for both my novels.
Here are the links if you’d like to see them.

Tangi’s Teardrops (A YA fantasy novel): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XOJlUn3VHc
Chocolate Aftertaste (A contemporary Romance):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIGUsL75OB0

10: How did you come up with the title of your latest book?

Chocolate Aftertaste is the title of my upcoming contemporary romance novel. The chocolate symbolizes the small town my main characters escapes to in order to find herself. The town is well known for having a large chocolate factory that produces great chocolate. Aftertaste symbolizes the consequences or traces left behind by the choices she comes to make while living in that particular town.

11: What are you working on now that you can talk about?

I’m currently finishing up with the edits of Chocolate Aftertaste. The novel will be available for purchase in March. In a nutshell, Chocolate Aftertaste is a story of choices and how they impact our lives. For years, Nora, my main character has allowed her controlling father to be the man behind the steering wheel of her life until one day she realizes he isn’t always right. She then decides she wants the control of her life back in her own hands. As a result, she risks losing the only family she has but stands to gain her freedom and hopefully find love.

Thank you so much, Kipp for featuring me on your blog today. I’m really honored to be here.

Review of Vanessa Morgan's Screenplay A Good Man

I received an advance copy of Vanessa Morgan’s new screenplay A Good Man to review. The story is now in preproduction with a French production company and after reading the screenplay i’m anxious to see the movie.
The screenplay opens with you meeting a help support group that turns out that they are all vampires. Let me just come right out and say these are not the vampires that sparkle. These vampires deal with a whole different side of the myth of their nature.
The main character is Louis he has been a vampire since 1750 and his main problem is that he was 55 when he was transformed into a vampire and that is the age he will be forever.
Louis is finding his life to be a very lonely way of life. Other than his need to feed upon the humans he still feels his need to bound with someone and he just is not finding it.
The screenplay is very engrossing I could not wait to see what was going to happen next. Some great characters that Vanessa brings to life and will make a great film. The ups and downs of really being a vampire and an inspector hot on your trail of blood.
The screenplay has a nice blend of described violence and suggested violence. I give it a fun Five star rating. I look forward to this coming to life on film.
Just remember Karma can really Bite.

Drowned Sorrow Review Vanessa Morgan

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm sure you'll understand once you know the rules of this village

Drowned Sorrow has a very interesting premise, It is nice to see someone not going an average route with a story. When I first heard about this book and how in fact it plays with the theory of The Memory Of Water. I was very excited to read it.

I myself have had a lot of interest in the mystery of water and this book embraces some of the theories without beating you over the head with it. The book has very well drawn characters that all become part of this creepy little town. It is a creepy fast read that will keep you reading to find out what is really going on with this town, and the lake.

She captures a very dark atmosphere and leaves it somewhat light on the gore, and sexual content so I think a young reader just being introduced into the horror genre would find it compelling and enough to keep older fan of horror interested.

So grab yourself a bottle of water and enjoy an interesting read.

I received a PDF copy of this book to review from the author herself.

Blackjacked and Pistol-Whipped: A Crime Does Not Pay Review

5.0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to the past,

I have always been interested in True Crime books my Kindle is filled with them, I love looking into the mind of the criminal,Killer, and how the authorities finally crack the case.

I also love nostalgic art work from True Detective pulp magazines and comic book art. Then one day cruising the Amazon store I came across this interesting book and thought I would give it a try. Wow so glad I did It's like the combinations of both of my favorite things. The art work is a lot of fun looking into the days past when radio shows, and books were our main form of entertainment.

The stories based on true crimes even with the stories originally printed in the 40's all of the cases are from late 1800's up to the 1930's. The stories are about 8 pages long they cover a lot of details and facts through the txt and artwork. The book contains 24 stories from a few years of the publication.

It is nice to see now the series is being released in volumes and number 1 was just released in MarchCrime Does Not Pay Archives Volume 1 (True Crime Graphic)
and I just received it and it looks like a lot of fun. Very happy with my purchase of both books. This one is a nice introduction without the pricey cost of the new book that just came out.
